Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston had a vintage “Jameis Winston game,” as the former #1 overall NFL draft pick was throwing touchdowns all over the field: to both teams. In their loss to the Denver Broncos, Winston completed 34 of 58 passes for 497 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions — two of which were returned for touchdowns.
Jameis Winston’s three interceptions and two pick-sixes would up being the difference in the game, as the Browns lost by a score of 41-23. His first pick happened in the second quarter, as he tossed a 71-yard pick six to Broncos linebacker Nik Bonitto.
Trailing by two points with just under two minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Winston threw his second pick of the game, a 44-yard pick-six to cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian. Winston’s final pick came in the last minute of the game as he was intercepted by linebacker Cody Barton in the end zone.
After the game, Winston delivered a classic Jameis Winston line about his interceptions, saying that he’s praying to be “delivered” from pick-sixes, making Monday night the full Jameis experience both on and off the field.
“I know I’m better than this. Like, I’m just praying for the Lord to deliver me from pick-sixes,” Winston told the media after the game, adding that he apologized to his teammates for his play.
“It was my fault. That’s evident. Two touchdowns by the defense, pick-sixes. I’ve been here before. I’ve got to play better,” he continued. “It’s tough for any team to win when you have two defensive touchdowns that the quarterback gave them. Defense played good, offense played well, I didn’t do a great job. I got to play better. That’s the biggest thing.”
The Browns, who sit last in the AFC North with a 3-9 record, have five games left on their 2024 schedule, as they’re still yet to face off agains the Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, and Baltimore Ravens.
